A few months ago I entered the Greenleaf Buds Writing Competition. As an aspiring author, entering competitions is a great way to ‘test’ my manuscripts on a trusted audience. It also forces me to work towards a deadline!
This year I entered two manuscripts. I didn’t expect to receive feedback as they only provided feedback to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and those manuscripts that were highly commended. So, I was very surprised and totally thrilled to receive an email to inform me that one of my stories was ‘longlisted’. Even more exciting, was that they decided to provide feedback – what a bonus!
The feedback given was really practical, as well as encouraging. It also indicated to me which of the two manuscripts was the strongest. It’s amazing what a little positive feedback can do for your self-belief! If you are a KidLit Writer, I highly recommend this competition in the future.
But for now, I’m off to take on the advice given and get back to editing my manuscript.
